WHY INTERNALLY THREADED JEWELRY?
Safety and quality are the reasons Fattys exclusively uses internally threaded body jewelry at all three of our Washington DC and Silver Spring, Maryland locations. Jewelry threads look much like the threads on a screw. With internally threaded jewelry, the threads are on the removable end piece — the part that passes through your piercing is completely smooth.
Externally threaded jewelry has exposed threads that pass through the piercing channel every time it is inserted or removed. Those threads can snag the skin and cause irritation. The exposed threads also create nooks where bacteria can reside in and build up on the jewelry, increasing the risk of irritation or infection even after a piercing is fully healed. You will notice when comparing jewelry prices that internally threaded jewelry is more expensive. This is due to the fact that it is more difficult and costly to manufacture, but Fattys believes the safety and comfort of our clients is always worth the investment.
